Car hire is an essential part of any trip to a foreign
city – except in Venice. While most people are aware
Venice is a city on the water, fewer may realise that there
are no cars at all, anywhere in Venice as there is simply
nowhere to drive around and consequently nowhere to accommodate
them within the city.
There are car parks around Venice, Piazzale Roma
and Tronchetto offer car-parking facilities for
arriving and departing from although prices for parking
long-term, anything in excess of 24 hours in fact, can be
quite expensive therefore if you are travelling around Italy
or Europe by car generally, this will be your best option
but if visiting Venice solely, you might have to ask yourself
if there is any necessity to hire a car at all whilst in
the city.
If you’re intending to see more of the mainland however,
and car-hire is a must, the airport and tourist information
offices in the city will be able to accommodate you
Did you Know?!?
Venice is connected to the mainland by The Ponte della
Libertà bridge which was opened by Mussolini
in 1933 and is the only means of road transport into the
city.
