Most foremost country’s Embassies are usually represented
in all other major parts of the world. It is worth knowing
that embassies of Commonwealth countries will also
endeavour to provide diplomatic assistance to those citizens
who belong to other Commonwealth countries who
are not represented by an embassy in the country they are
in, such as Italy.
Although you would hope never to have to find yourself
requiring the assistance of the embassy, it might pay to
know if your country has one in Venice and where it is to
be located. Occasionally however, that need may arise due
to unforeseen circumstances such as requiring money to get
home for example, and in such instances this is when the
embassy comes in as it aims to protect the interests of
its nationals.
Most countries have an embassy in Rome or Milan where Italy’s
concerned although a few have one in Venice. Where Visa’s
are concerned, unrestricted access is given to all EU nationals
and limited stays to citizens of the USA, Australia, New
Zealand and Canada on provision of a valid passport. Other
nationalities should look into where their nearest embassy
is prior to travelling.
The British consulate is located on the mainland in Mestre
and is open to the public from Monday-Friday between 10am
-1pm. France and Germany also has embassies in the city.
